about
the seminar
Based on Margie’s acclaimed book
“How To Get the Part Without Falling Apart”
this three hour seminar is a compact version of the Margie Haber Weekend
Intensive Workshop.
Margie selects a group of actors from the
audience, and leads them through the cold-reading process, instructing
them on her ten step method for breaking down a scene, including topics
such as relationship, intention, history, personalization, opening beat
and moment to moment work. These steps help teach the actors to stop
intellectualizing, to get out of their heads, to Stop Acting
and to Live the Life of the character on the page.
Margie also introduces the actors to the
Haber Phrase Technique, a system that teaches the actor
how to use the page, trust the words and explore the life, instead of
focusing on the trap of memorization.
With a second group of actors, Margie works
with each individual’s audition and provides the group and observers
with invaluable feedback. Margie knows firsthand the value of observation;
all of our students benefit not only from the work that they may do,
but by observing the work of others. This learning is essential to the
growth of the actor and is a crucial element in the three hour seminar.

about
the workshop
This three day on-camera
workshop brings a maximum of twelve actors into an intimate, safe environment.
Each session lasts five to seven hours; each actor works each session.
On Day One, actors
learn Margie’s ten-step method, practicing how to break down sides
while connecting to the character, using relationship, intention, history,
personalization, opening beat, moment to moment work, and the imagination.
By using their imagination and self, the actor learns to stop the “acting”
which prevents so many of us from reaching a place of truth, and bringing
our essence to the table. The actor learns to get out their head and
into their core self; they learn how to stop making the audition about
“me” and making it about the relationship that exists within
the scene – and the room.
Day Two, actors
learn the Haber Phrase Technique – a method which teaches them
how to use the page instead of fear it. Actors learn
to step away from the performance anxiety that comes with forced memorization,
and instead learn to trust the words – and use them to explore
the life of the character, supporting relationship and intention.
Day Three is an
audition, where the actors come into the room, one at a time, with a
“cold” scene, and have a taped audition. Afterwards, each
actor’s audition is played for the group; Margie breaks down each
audition, showing the actor and the group what is working within the
situation, and what obstacles are present for the actor to correct.
