Hi Everyone,
I have just returned from
an amazing teaching tour in Europe. My son and I stepped off the
plane in Rome to be greeted by my wonderful student Milutin. He
generously, both with time and money, gave us a fantastic tour of Roma.
Bella, Bella!! Let's talk about the food - pastas, pizzas,
mozzarella - wine, wine, wine - only surpassed by the Italians themselves.
Then off to Florence and Venice, taking in the magnificent sights and
history of these two fascinating cities. A week later we returned to
Rome where I held my first seminar. In all the places that I have
taught, I never needed an interpreter. It was a challenge that I
thoroughly enjoyed. The Italian actors were very passionate about
learning my audition technique, and expressed great enthusiasm in my
return to do a weekend workshop. I ended my time in Italy in
Positano (the Amalfi coast), the most romantic, beautiful place on earth.
It was time to leave my
wonderful Italy, to return to my old stomping grounds, Amsterdam.
Romy and some of my students picked me up at the airport, showering me
with gifts and escorted me to the Pulitzer Hotel. I love Amsterdam.
The quiet streets, the serene canals, and of course, my friends. My
student, Kanan, invited us over to his home for an evening of World Cup
soccer - Holland against Portugal (we were in a pub in Venice the week
before watching Italy and USA). After 4 nights of catching up, I
held my second seminar. Romy and Merrill did a wonderful job of
getting the word out in magazines and a TV show. 75 eager actors had
the opportunity to learn the Haber Technique.
My last stop was Ireland.
How much I love my Irish! Four of the actors who were a part of the
International study group in Los Angeles, had just returned to Ireland and
graciously welcomed me back. Laura and Poilin brought me back to
Laura's house where her parents invited me to stay. I started the
next day with a live TV show appearance on their "Today Show." What
an experience that was. I had to calm my nerves by reminding myself
of the Haber philosophy - put the attention on the other person. I
was able to steer away from the gossip of Brad Pitt and talk about what he
was like as my student. I felt victorious! The afternoon was
devoted to a radio show, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Then two of my
favorite people, Niamh and Deborah picked Michael and I up and drove us on
a four day trip across Ireland. How beautiful it was!! I
understand why people love it so. Back to Dublin for my last
seminar. Laura, Niamh and Poilin out did themselves. 150
actors, 100 books sold and a triumphant evening. I have returned,
but the memories of this past month remain.
I am excited for the
future. The Dutch actors, along with the English, will be coming out
in February for a 6 week international program. Romy, Merrill and
Elizabeth James in London are taking applications for this exciting trip
to Los Angeles. Niamh is taking care of the Irish actors. A
return of a new group will be in April. There was such a demand that
Niamh is asking actors to get in touch with her as soon as possible.
She can be reached through the Irish website. Also, I am having one
of my terrific LA teachers come to Ireland to teach a group in November.
Thank you for your support. Looking forward to more times together.
Margie
