5/5/11 – My heartthrob, Colin Egglesfield – star of Something Borrowed

It was a Premiere that took me back to the old Hollywood.   Fans hovering around the magical Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, while waiting for their favorite stars to appear -all wearing the hottest heels, dresses, quirky attire, flashes of cameras, screams from the crowd- as they arrived in their elegant limos.

As so many well-known faces entered the theatre, I waited patiently for Colin.  First his co-stars  – a very pregnant Kate Hudson in a gorgeous yellow gown, an adorable Ginnifer Goodwin, and the goofy cute John Krasinski.  Still no Colin.   While waiting, I approached the producer, Hillary Swank, telling her how much I admire her work and that I am Colin’s acting coach.  She squeezed my hand saying he is so talented and such a beautiful person, inside and out.  I smiled as if I gave birth to him!

Then he appeared!!  Handsome, dressed in a smart, gray suit with a grin that makes your heart skip a beat.  He saw me, deepening that sexy smile, and as he hugged me, whispered, “We did it Margie.  Remember all those days at your house “living the life?”

We got to our seats.  The lights went off, the music began, and there was Colin with a close-up that covered the entire screen!  Seriously, there was a gasp from all the women in the theatre!  A young, taller handsome Tom Cruise was what was whispered and spread through out the audience.  Our mouths dropped as we realized -  COLIN EGGLESFIELD is such a heartthrob!!

Then off to the Hollywood After Party.  WOW !   800 invited guests showed up at the fabulous  Hollywood Boulevard3.  I couldn’t believe how big this place was.  Room after room of people, eating the most divine food provided by Wolfgang Puck.   Drinking my champagne as I leaned over the balcony, I saw Colin. I quickly ran to him and gave him the biggest hug.  He introduced me to all his family, his mom and dad and aunts and uncles and brothers – all proud as can be.  I met John Krasinski who said it was Colin was the glue.  With out the chemistry between Ginnifer and Colin, there would be no film.  He was so right.  Later I met Ginnifer who couldn’t stop raving about Colin and how much she adored working with him.

As I left for the night, Colin walked me out.  We spent some time remembering how this all came about.  It was a year ago, when Colin was given this audition.  He has been my student for years, through his time on “All My Children” and “Melrose Place.”  TV auditions are quick.  You can audition one day and be shooting the next.  But film, it’s a whole other process.  We had the opportunity to spend weeks with each other.  He would come over to the house, maybe in the morning for a bowl of oatmeal, and I would teach him to live the life.  We spent time getting to know the relationships and the complexity of love.  We weren’t worried whether he booked it or not.  That is the biggest problem with actors.  They spend their time praying that they will get a part and not enjoying the process. If you have 45 auditions a year, then live 45 lives.  Don’t concern yourself with that one or two times a year where you will get a job.  Enjoy living other people’s lives .   Each time Colin went in for another audition, we would make the adjustments until it was down to Coin and one other person.   Then he called me and said he got it!!  We were flying because he invested his time with me and it paid off!  Now with the luxury of time of having booked it, we continued the process of living the life with journals and owning who he was.

A year later and here we are celebrating the next chapter of Colin’s life. We kissed goodbye and he promised we would go to see Something Borrowed with his whole Wednesday class that he has been a part of for a long time.  I looked in his beautiful eyes and said there was a real person on that screened tonight, with thoughts and feelings.  You are no longer at actor.  You are a human being and isn’t that what this acting thing is all about!

I’m so happy and proud of my Irish students, Emmett Scanlan and Ruth McIntyre who star in the film, Charlie Casanova – the film just premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, TX.  It is the first non-American film to be selected for Feature Narrative Competition, and it’s the first Irish film ever selected.

I met Emmett when involved with Hollywood Trials for RTE Television in Ireland, and Ruth studied in the International Studies Program at my studio.

I love my Irish actors.  Congrats to you both!!

To all my students & industry friends,

I had the honor of going to the premiere of the movie, Frankie and Alice starring the sensational Halle Berry.  Not since Monster’s Ball have I seen Halle give such a mesmerizing performance.  We had a chance to catch up after many years.  She was as happy to see me as I was to see her.  What makes Halle so special is she is a human being first, then an actress.  She “lived the life” of a complicated woman with a dissociative identity disorder.  I teach my students that behavior and thoughts are more important than the words.  That was fully achieved in Halle’s ability to “live this life.”  Please, everyone, support this movie and spend an evening with pure genius!  Congratulations to Halle and to my friend Vince Cirrincione for producing this gem!

Love,
Margie
